KOLKATA R G KAR DOCTOR RAPE-MURDER: JUNIOR DOCTORS OF KOLKATA MARCH ON "LIGHTS ON" PROTEST

Junior doctors of Kolkata march on with candles and mobile torches on the streets of Kolkata on 4th September, Wednesday as protest of the PG trainee doctor rape and murder seeking proper justice for the brutal crime. Junior doctors of state run hospitals plead people to switch off lights and turn on torch lights and “diyas” from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. yesterday symbolising “let there be light, let there be justice.”

Rallies went out at significant road crossings in the city which included Moulali, New Town Biswa Bangla Gate, Rashbehari crossing, Behala, Garia, Ballygunge, Hazra crossing and Jadavpur 8B bus stand. As a support to the “lights out protest” West Bengal’s Raj Bhaban switched off its light at the particular hour. Governor CV Ananda Bose said about the “lights on” protest that “When light is fear , darkness is dear”.
The hearing that was supposed to be held on 5th September, Thursday at the Supreme Court has been postponed as the unavailability of the Chief Justice on that particular date.
